Brantz overview
In the sixties serious competitors in rallying used tripmeters which were 100% mechanical to improve their navigation and finish higher up the finishing order, and some rally regulations continue to allow only this type. However, many historic or retrospective rallies worldwide which require mechanical instruments have approved the RetroTrip tripmeters made by Brantz. These incorporate electro-mechanical clicking digits and are calibrated to the car by operating switches on the unit. They are normally used with an electrical sensor on the speedometer cable or you can use a wheel or propshaft sensor. Older cars with 6 volt electrics or doubtful 12 volt charging systems should use the power conditioner also listed here.
For modern rallies we offer the Brantz International electronic tripmeters which rely on an electrical signal which is then processed electronically. International tripmeters have large light emitting displays, 15 mm (0.6 inches) tall. The Brantz International 1 is ideal for road rallying and club level stage events, while the Brantz International 2 offers a complete solution for the professional rally driver. The Brantz 2 'S' Pro has the addition of a highly accurate speedometer. They are calibrated electronically and are normally used with a wheel or propshaft sensor.
