Ford overview
The first Fords to be made in England were Model T's and they were assembled at Trafford Park in Manchester. The Ford Model T succeeded even though it wasn't ideal for UK conditions and when it was discontinued a 'European' car was designed and a new factory built on marsh land at Dagenham in Essex. The basis of this was a four-cylinder side valve engine that was to become the mainstay of Ford production for many years, although they did add a V8 later. In fact, the 1172 cc version was so available and easy to tune that it was used by many special builders and for racing, even in the post war years. At one point Ford called their car the Popular and it stuck. Many drivers of the day started out in a 'Ford Pop', but they were also called Anglias and Prefects. Post war production started with basically the same cars, but they were then replaced with 'startling modern lines' and unit construction bodies. This started a long run of Fords, Anglia, Prefect, Consul, Zephyr, Zodiac, Cortina, Corsair, Escort, Capri, Granada. Of these the enthusiasts cars are probably the sporty versions of the Escort including Twin Cam, Mexico, RS1600, RS2000 and the Capris. Regrettably Fords are not now made in the UK, they are all imported.

Ford either made its components in house or used a close knit circle of its own suppliers. Firms like Lucas and SU were not included, but if you do need anything for a Ford it is worth seeing what similar equipment we supply by looking under the appropriate heading. We are often asked about books etc. on the marque and those we have are listed below:

If you are running a Ford or are involved in restoration of Fords we hope you will find this website useful. It should be noted that we also offer to the Ford owner rear view mirrors, sun visors, clothing for open cars, oils and other consumables. Enjoy your motoring!
