AC overview
The name AC came from the name of their first commercial 3-wheeler: The Autocarrier that was designed and manufactured by John Weller. In 1908 AC produced their first car called the Sociable, a version of which was used in the Great War as a machine gun carrier. They made the 16/40 to 80 cars all through the vintage years and restarted after 1945 making updated versions of the pre-war cars and invalid carriages. Looking for a new car project they found John Tojeiro who had designed a sports racing car. It had a lightweight twin tube chassis, was powered by a Bristol 2-litre engine and was clothed in an aluminium body. AC produced this as their Ace sports car from 1953 to 1963 with AC, Bristol and Ford engines, and also spawned the Aceca and Greyhound. The story is well known how Carroll Shelby proposed to AC the fitting of a more powerful American V8 engine and this became the Cobra. There have been several attempts to revive the AC name, and 'continuation' models of AC cars and replicas are still being made. Over the years Lucas, Smiths and others supplied parts for AC's, many of them being parts common to cars being built by other manufacturers. We stock and supply some of these items, to find them look under the appropriate heading. Included are a number of parts specific to AC's. These specific parts, accessories and books are listed below: If you are running an AC or are involved in restoration of AC's we hope you will find this website useful. It should be noted that we also offer to the AC owner rear view mirrors, sun visors, clothing, oils and other consumables. Enjoy your motoring!
