Austin Healey overview
Donald and Geoff Healey had been building Healeys and Nash-Healeys for a number of years but for the 1952 Motor Show at Earls Court they introduced a new model, the 'Hundred'. This prototype was seen by Lenard Lord of the Austin Motor Company and an agreement was quickly made for Austin to undertake production and so the Austin-Healey marque was born. First the 100, followed by 100M, 100S, 100 Six, 3000, Mk I, Mk II and the Mk III which was in production until 1970. In 1958 the Healeys and BMC co-operated to produce a smaller sports car which they called the Austin-Healey Sprite which became known as 'Frogeye' due to the positioning of the headlamps. The Sprite was developed year by year and an MG version was introduced and both marques were built alongside each other at Abingdon until 1971.
